I was searching for some 1/4 cup bowls for dipping sauces as we do a lot of fun "FOODIE" stuff. I came across these and while reading the description that "Melamine can never be microwaves safe due to its manufacturing process." So i decided to GOOGLE Melamine and whoa, nothing I found was good. The chemical process has cyanide as a trimmer and is a metabolite of a pesticide.This listing says "safe enough for children" so after reading below paragraph I decided to search how they can claim its safe. There is no study or basis as to why or how its determined safe. There is no description other than "safe" and after trying to find out where these were manufactured (cant) I have no doubt they are made in China with ZERO studies of how much Leeching of chemical into the food and what is considered "safe for children" or even adults of such toxic chemical.This is the first Review of an item that I haven't purchased, but I have 5 children and am completely shocked at this being listed as safe. As for my credentials, I have an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Michigan. Now that doesnt make me and expert on weather these bowls will leech out chemicals in an amount that will hurt children, but really, I have enough experience with failed manufacturing standards, when even a company like Nestlé added this to their product to make their product seem to have more protein that it did (who cares about making sure the babies get the right amount of protein to grow healthy) causing more than 50,000 infant hospitalizations. This was done intentionally to fool government quality tests for none other reason than CORPORATE GREED.I read Wikipedia and was amazed at all the legal action taken against companies that used Melamine to adulterate their products. I even read that China executed to 2 prisoners in 2009 for adulterating food with Melamine. I love these little bowls! Sweet designs and a gazillion uses. Good for dispensing vitamins, for quarter-cup servings of ice cream (harmless!), for holding retainers in bedside tables, for paper clips and stamps. Twelve is a lot, so I've been able to give some to friends when they've commented on how adorable they are. And there's another use - a spontaneous gift!
